Shopping and sweating in Siem Reap

The next day we didn’t awake until 1.30pm, sweaty and tired, but luckily not hungover. So we got ready (it’s so hot and humid here at the moment, you need like 10 showers a day – never come to Cambodia on the cusp of dry and wet seasons!!) Then headed to town for food, we ended up on Pub Street which is totally different during the day, and went to an Italian for some stodge, then went to the Old Market on a proper shopping bender – spent way too much money but got some awesome bargains on gifts to send home.

Then we made the decision to start our 2 days of Angkor city touring tomorrow, so we contacted David’s friend, Saro, who he’d told us was great and spoke excellent English. He agreed to meet us at Viva! to discuss options and prices. We decided we wanted to do the ‘Big Tour’, Banteay Srei, the Landmine museum and sunset on Friday, and then the ‘Grand Tour’, which included sunrise at Angkor Wat, on Saturday. So we agreed a price, $22 for tomorrow and $15 for Saturday and then we headed back to our guesthouse to shower AGAIN.

We then went for a foot massage (complete with a complimentary back and shoulder massage AND free soft drink all for $3) and then went to the night market for a proper look around this time. I got some more things. Then headed to Pub Street for food, but as soon as we found somewhere we liked, the entire block’s electricity went down! So out came the whoops and cheers along pub street and the Iphone torches, and then we spotted one little gem that had somehow managed to get their electricity back up and running before everyone else.

It was a little Khmer BBQ restaurant – where you BBQ your own food on a little gas-lit BBQ on the table – you choose 3 meats, get noodles, veg and rice and different sauces and off you go! The food was so damn good we will definitely be back! Then we headed home, and bumped into Lee from the night before along the way, so we decided to get a tuk tuk back with him. Then we just hit the sack around 11 ready for a long day of temples tomorrow in the blistering heat!
